Planting Trees Around the World

Planting trees worldwide

Planting trees is the process of planting tree seedlings, more commonly for forestry, land reclamation, or landscaping purposes. It differs from the plantation of larger trees in arboriculture.

Planting trees is a fantastic way to become a great steward of your environment. Trees liven up the surroundings, provide you with shade and also benefit the environment. How many towns and cities seem empty because they don’t have enough trees? Almost all of them would most likely look better if the inhabitants would get started on planting trees in their yards and parks.

Selecting the right tree to plant

There isn’t any single tree species that is perfect for every yard or park or even a forest or jungle. Quite a few varieties, like dogwood, continue to be very small their entire lives, while some, like an oak will grow to be large and even stately. Typically the wood of soft maples is weak and will crack quite easily, whereas hard maples grow slowly and have solid wood. Every type offers exceptional factors making it an effectively easily fit in some areas and not in others.

Are you trying to keep your neighbors out or invite them onto your property? Are you looking for a windbreak? Is there a particular color you enjoy? Do you enjoy trees which have beautiful spring flowers or trees with magnificent autum colours?

Which tree to plant is based on the answers to the above questions. But you also need to look at your planting site. Think about trees that are near patios and paths with roots that will cause the brick / concrete to buckle in time.  Consider that you don’t want to grow a forest that always has to be warded off. Is there going to a sufficient amount of room or space for one each tree to grow?

When is the best time for planting trees?

Spring is not an ideal time to plant a tree since the ground has not yet achieved an optimal temperature to encourage the tree to grow sufficiently before the heat of summer hits.

Summer is not a great time for new trees given that warm weather and the accompanying lack of sufficient rainfall causes a newly planted tree to struggle. Such weather makes it difficult for the tree to generate a proper root base.

Similarly the merciless winter will also be destructive since the cold soil discourages root growth and frost may kill the fragile root ball.

Bare-rooted and rootballed trees and shrubs will only be available in autumn and winter. These should be planted right away, but if planting immediately is not possible, then they need to be temporary planted in soil to prevent the roots drying out, until planting is possible. If you are planting a balled or bare root tree, it is important to understand that its root system has been reduced by 90 to 95 percent of its original size during transplanting. As a result of the trauma caused by the digging process, trees commonly exhibit what is known as transplant shock.

Unless your nursery advises you otherwise, the best time to plant a tree is towards later part of the growing season.

Trees and shrubs must be planted at the right depth and receive the right amount of water if they are to establish themselves and flourish. Planting too deeply and under or over watering are among the most common and serious planting errors.
